EIA Nordic 2025: Advancing Energy Informatics in the Nordic Region

Stockholm, Sweden – August 20th-22nd, 2025 – As part of the Nordic Energy Informatics Academy (EIA Nordic) project, the EIA Nordic 2025 Conference was hosted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology, drawing researchers, students, and professionals from across the Nordic region and beyond. The conference stood out for its highly focused and relevant program, which many participants praised as a refreshing alternative to broader academic events.

A Deeply Themed Conference Program

The conference featured a robust technical program structured around three full days, covering a wide and relevant thematic range, with contributions drawn from 65 submissions resulting in 43 full and 8 short papers accepted and published in Springer’s LNCS proceedings.

Key thematic areas included:

  • Energy Forecasting, Intelligent Control, District Heating, and Thermal Retrofit Strategies

  • Building Simulation, Urban Energy, Environmental Sensing, Industrial Efficiency, and Biomass Utilization

  • Electric Vehicle Energy Systems and Mobility

  • Multi-Agent Systems, Local Market Coordination, Digital Twins.

The technical program also deeply explored broader cross-sector themes, such as:

  • Smart Grids & Distributed Energy Resources

  • AI for Sector Integration and Energy Markets

  • Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Data Protection

  • Energy Informatics for Industrial and Building Efficiency

  • Climate Adaptation, Resilience, and Policy Innovation.

The conference also featured a dedicated Nordic track, focusing on cold-climate smart grid solutions, Nordic district heating and sectoral coupling, sustainable urban development in Nordic cities, and bespoke Nordic energy policy and business models

In addition to the presentations and discussions, the program included a site visit to the KTH Live‑In Lab, a real-world test environment embedded into KTH buildings - highlighting how ongoing informatics research is already applied within living infrastructure.

A Nordic Collaboration

EIA Nordic 2025 is part of the Nordic Energy Informatics Academy, a collaboration between four leading universities from four Nordic regions (Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, and Norway). This initiative spans annual conferences, exchange programs, summer schools, and inclusive capacity-building efforts—advancing sustainable energy systems and community engagement across the Nordic region.

The conference was also held in connection with the EIA Nordic 2025 Summer School on Smart Buildings, further strengthening the community of researchers and practitioners working to advance energy informatics and sustainable development in the Nordic region.
